Iowa offers 2013 prospect

Luke Fischer got his first look at the University of Iowa this past April while playing in an AAU basketball tournament. After picking up an offer from the Hawkeyes last week, the 2013 basketball prospect is planning a return trip next weekend to get a better view of the Iowa program.

"Iowa offered me last Monday. Coach McCaffery called and left me a voice mail and then I called him back and he said they wanted to offer me a scholarship to Iowa," Fischer said. "Coach McCaffery said that he saw me play a few times this summer and I remember seeing him or an Iowa assistant at a lot of my games this summer.

While in Iowa City earlier this year, the 6-foot-9 forward briefly met with the Iowa coaches. Now with the scholarship offer in hand, the Germantown, Wisconsin native plans on making a return trip next weekend.

"I'm coming down with my parents for the football game on the 17th for an unofficial visit," Fischer said. "I am anxious to get another look at the Iowa campus. When we were there before it was more about playing in the tournament, so this time we will get a chance to see more of the campus and what it is like on a football weekend."

With the Iowa offer, Fischer currently holds scholarship offers from Indiana, Marquette, Boston College, Creighton, and Drake. He continues to get interest from several Big Ten schools, including his home state Badgers, along with Florida State, and Virginia Tech.

He made a second trip to Indiana in late August and plans on visiting Wisconsin and Boston College yet this fall on a football weekend. After the visit to Bloomington, Fischer said that the Hoosiers were at the top of his list of schools, but now he appears to be slowing down the recruiting process.

"I really don't have any leaders. Indiana has shown a lot of interest and I am definitely interested in them, but I don't have a favorite. I want to kind of take it slow right now."
