April 21, 2012When Steve Elmer committed to Notre Dame back in September he became the first of what the Irish hoped would become a full offensive line haul in the recruiting class of 2013.
Four-star prospect Hunter Bivin and three-star lineman Colin McGovern both committed in March after the Irish junior day. Three-star prospect Mike McGlinchey made it a trifecta on the weekend when he committed one day after Bivin and McGovern, leaving just one space up front for the Irish to fill.
Notre Dame hoped to fill it this weekend when four-star John Montelus visited from Everett, Mass. And that's exactly what the Irish did as Montelus committed to Notre Dame during the Blue-Gold Game weekend.
Montelus, a 6-foot-5, 295-pounder from Everett High School once dreamed of playing in the NBA. A growth spurt and encouragement from his high school coaches led him to the gridiron in ninth grade and he hasn't looked back.
He earned scholarship offers from many of college football's top programs and visited Florida before heading north to South Bend on Thursday.
Apparently he saw enough during the past two days to know Notre Dame fit what he was looking for in a college.
"I'm really looking for just a great atmosphere, good coaching staff, of course the academics, and winning a championship is also big to me, everyone likes to win," Montelus told Rivals.com on April 14, 2012.
Montelus' commitment closes out the Irish's recruiting efforts at the position and lays the groundwork for Notre Dame's recruiting class of 2013.
