January 31, 2012John Montelus was already very familiar with Boston College heading into the weekend. After all, he had already taken multiple trips to the school given the proximity from his home in Everett.
The 6-foot-5, 295-pound offensive tackle has emerged as one of the state's top offensive linemen in years with early verbal offers from BC, UConn, NC State, Syracuse and Virginia.
He was one of the most highly-touted visitors for the Eagles on Saturday at the junior day and both he and his mother were given the red carpet treatment.
"It went really well. I liked it and my mom liked it," Montelus told EagleAction.com early this week.
"It was probably my third or fourth time up there and I'm really liking them. I don't have any favorites, though. It's really hard to choose right now. I've got another year so all the schools recruiting me are even."
Montelus said the event began at 11 a.m. and concluded at 4 p.m.
He said the prospects in attendance took a tour bus around campus and walked for part of the trip. Much of the trip was dedicated to giving the prospects a chance to see the weight room and the football facilities.
"Me and my mom got a private talk with Coach Spaz," he added.
"He just told us BC's a great school and he would love for me to go to BC. He talked about all the opportunities that open up when you go to Boston College."
Montelus hopes to major in either criminal justice or computer science and the coaches seemed well aware of that.
"Coach Devine gave me a paper so I could read about the computer science program they had. He told me it's really good," he said.
Montelus is far from done with the recruiting process and this could drag out for a while.
He plans to visit West Virginia on February 11 and he's hoping to make it to a basketball game at Michigan after that. Over spring break Montelus hopes to make it down to Florida.
