Practice Notebook: Intensity increasing in shells

AggieYell.com Wednesday morning marked the first day in pads as Texas A&M donned helmets and shoulder pads (shells) and shorts for an early morning session on the practice fields. With added shells, intensity picked up especially in team drills.
Linebacker Garrick Williams delivered the hit of the day when he form-tackled receiver Lionel Smith, who caught a pass on a wide receiver screen and turned to run up field over the middle where Williams met him and planted him on his back.
But even though the intensity picked up, it wasn't enough for head coach Mike Sherman.
"I didn't think it picked it up enough necessarily. I think it should've been better today with the first day in pads and could've been better," Sherman said. "I thought the heat got to us a little bit and the length of practice got to us a little bit, but I think it should've been better. We were a little bit inconsistent today. We put the pads on and guys are feeling their way through things, but it wasn't as good as I would have hoped it to be today."
