Brad Sturdy
OrangeandBlueNews.com With the decision by Isaac Chew to leave the Fighting Illini basketball staff and head to Marquette, John Groce has another assistant coaching position to fill. The Replacements
A few names have emerged as possibilities to replace Chew on the Illinois staff, however as we have seen thus far from John Groce, he will look for the right fit for his staff rather than trying to make the big splash with the hire. Here's a look at some names that have been thrown out over the past 24 hours. .
Deon Thomas - Former Illini great and Chicago Simeon star talked to Illinois about the opening before Chew was hired and would keep numerous alumni and boosters happy, while also being a city guy.
Brandon Miller - Already a part of the staff, Miller has a high major experience at Ohio State and knows how to recruit at this level. Would be a good 'fit' with the current staff.
Willie Scott - Bradley assistant and clothing designer has good ties to Chicago and knows the lay of the land in Illinois, but lacks high major experience. He would make sure that all of the staff looks good on the sidelines.
Paris Parham - The former Illinois State assistant is well known and well liked in Chicago and spent time at Morgan Park high School just a few years ago.
Robert Smith - Chicago Simeon head coach has made no secret of his wish to move up the coaching ladder into the college coaching ranks.
Roger Powell - Valpo assistant is as good a person as you will meet and knows the Illini program well. Lacks experience, but has passion for the program and for coaching.
Ronald 'Chin' Coleman - Nebraska assistant and former Mac Irvin Fire coach would be making a move similar to Chew's move.
